Welcome to The Quest

The Quest, is about a journey all of us take, in some shape or form. It is the quest to understand self, the world, the universe, and in a sense the known and unknown aspects of life. At a deeper level perhaps the meaning of our existence or what we are here to do. So join me as I wander a bit across the landscape of the Lenormand cards, cartomancy, and various tarot and oracle decks. In and of themselves, they will reveal little, for it is only in combination with the mind, the heart, and that illusive aspect, the soul... that meaning is revealed.

Deck Interview: Oracle of Visions

The Oracle of Visions by Ciro Marchetti is an older deck, published in 2014 U.S. Games Systems.I find the images intriguing and enjoy reading with it. One of the interesting aspects is that none of the cards are "named." Every so often I like to revisit my decks and have a bit of a conversation with them. So let's get started.

What is the role you play in my life currently?  Card 41 is the lady in the mirror surrounded with masks...it is a card of self analysis, knowing ones self and exploration. This is an area I have been focusing on and I think the card is saying this deck can be useful in this endeavor.

What card sums up your current overall message to me? Card 8 is the goal setter. Gazing into the potion, wondering about his direction. "When we are motivated by goals that have deep meaning, by dreams that need completion, by pure love that needs expressing, them we truly live life." Greg Anderson  To me the overall message is....Be true to yourself and your dreams and goals.

What card tells me my primary weakness right now? Card 48 reversed. (This deck doesn't have reversed meanings per se). This is a card of choices, risks and consequences. I could read this one of two ways....it is indicating that I am fearful of risks or consequences OR I could read it as a card that says be careful of your risks and make sure you are taking them for the right reasons.

What card tells me my primary strength right now? Card 26, the past and future, fresh start card. I think as a strength card is is saying that I do a pretty good job of letting go of the past (or maybe learning from it) and that I move forward.

Message from the Universe?  Card 27...Attraction and seduction....doesn't have to be a person, could be a situation....be wary....the universe is saying...weigh carefully your actions and do not be mesmerized or act in haste.

Soul Message?   Card 50...this card represents the decks message directly to my soul, inner self, spiritual element. The mermaid card represents curiosity, comparisons and dissatisfaction. So often the lure of the world and the "what ifs" make us ignore the many blessings we have currently. The deck is reminding my soul that none of those things matter....enjoy life, cherish the days and find joy in small things.

I hope you enjoyed the conversation with my deck. If you don't have this particular one, check it out!

Mexican Loteria Deck Interview

I love the Mexican Loteria cards for readings and just have developed a special bond with them. I often like  have a conversation with different decks. Today I'm using the Loteria cards.

I love this little deck which is actually cards that are part of a bingo type game. I had the bag specially made to hold them.

What do you have to tell me about my life currently?
El Soldado...This ones all about following directions or NOT...sometimes things are too rigid and we do things without question...At times it seems its hard to break free from these bounds that hold us.

What card holds a special message for me?
El Negrito .....Do what you need to do to get through this! This one could apply to several aspects of my life currently!

What card reflects my weakness?
La Calavera ....something is not exactly unexpected but still a shock....as a weakness I think it is saying that I'm getting caught off guard....remember to expect the unexpected.

What card reflects my strength?
El Cotorro....All about talking....and I do think that is a strength...gathering information.

The Card Journal/Planner

I wanted to "give you a peek" into how I am journaling currently. I am using a MAMBI Happy Planner which I created a new front and back cover for.

I tried to use some images that reminded me of self discovery and were also inspiring.

During this particular week...I used some planner printables that "fit" with card readings and a couple image from the deck I used that particular week. I am still "experimenting" with using this type of planner to journal in so I am sure I will make some changes in the coming weeks.

Here's another example of a weekly view where I used only images of the cards I drew that week. I typically draw a card for the week on a Sunday evening and then a Card a Day the rest of the week. There'a also a monthly calendar view but I have only been jotting down the card name on the month;y page.

Even though I sometimes miss days and have a little trouble keeping up, I am enjoying this method of recording card draws and journaling. I will be sharing more pages in the coming weeks.

June Study Group: Playing Cards

This month it's back to an old favorite of mine. Reading with playing cards.  I really like themed decks so this month I plan to use.

Alice in Wonderland playing cards. I love the quotations on the card and weaving in those along with the card meanings really enriches a reading.

Day of the Dead themed playing cards. I love the art work on these. They do not have any sayings on them but the deck has two Ace of Spades. The grim reaper one I consider BIG trouble and the other one I simple read as problems or endings.

I hope to be able to post more this month and share with you some of the readings I do.

The Story of El Gallo

It came to me that weaving a story about each of the Mexican Loteria cards might serve a purpose. First it gives my intuition a chance to voice thoughts that go along with each card in more detail than a simple interpretation might offer. Second it gives us a sense of the cards and how they might fit into the human experience, thus helping us remember the meanings when we see the cards in readings. These are STORIES, and while they may be based on facts, history, and other knowledge, they are stories, written by me. I only say this, so as not to confuse readers about the "legitimacy" of what I am writing.
The card:

***There are other versions of the card but in this particular deck the El Gallo card is also the deck title card.

The brief interpretation:

El Gallo: El que le canto a San Pdero no le volvera a cantar: The Rooster: He that sang for St. Peter will not return to sing again.

Interpretations: Beware of betrayal OR Someone who has betrayed you will not do it again OR The person who is trying to warn/advise you is going to give up.

Here is a link to an earlier post I wrote about El Gallo.

The Story of El Gallo

El Gallo struts about the farm yard. He pecks here and there and at the same time he keeps an eye on everything, even when he is pretending not to. After all he has a job to do and that job warrants some respect. You see El Gallo thinks that he makes the sun rise. Every morning as the first light of the sun colors the morning sky lightly pink, he begins to crow. As he crows the sky brightens and the golden light of the sun falls once again upon the earth. His crowing wakes everyone and warns them that a new day has dawned.

El Gallo warns of other things too, like when the fox is creeping near the hen house, his crowing sends the hens scattering and running for cover. He considers himself quite important in the overall scheme of things. Long ago, in a time before he knew life, one of the first crowed for St. Peter, as prophesied by the man, many call Christ. He would crow three times and as the third crowing echoed in the ears of those gathered, Peter would realize that he had betrayed the one he loved.

Betrayal is a hard thing to accept but sometimes it is all we can do. Accept that it has happened and move on. Sometimes second chances are possible and sometimes they are not. At times, El Gallo grew tired of wandering around the yard on high alert. Sometimes the hens do not heed his warning and such is life. There are times he just gives up and says, "be as it may be." I cannot warn those who will not listen.

El Gallo has a bit of false pride, as unknown to him, he really doesn't make the sun rise. Yet others will be well served by heeding his warnings, as more often than not he is right. . Danger may be lurking or a betrayal may be right around the next corner. Sometimes El Gallo is hard to take because he seems a bit cocky and boastful but pay heed. Don't ignore the message because you do not like the messenger. Don't let your own foolish "head in the sand" approach to life cause you to ignore what is right in front of you. It might be hard to look at, it might be difficult to consider but betrayal is a very real part of life and El Gallo knows it better than most.

A Novel: The Birthing Tree

I've been working on a novel and invite you to read along as I post chapters over at my blog Turn the Page.  You can click where it says The Birthing Tree on the tab there and it will take you to a list of the chapters. Then you can click on those links and read the chapters in order. I would love feedback about the book

Oracle of Visions: Card Three

I suppose the "danger" of naming the cards has just cropped up as I called card one the dreamer and now discover that this card is also about dreams. But still I see a difference between the two. Card one is about the beginning of dreams, of hopes, of possibilities...while this card which I am calling

Spiritual Escape

is about dreams of a higher level. These are about things that touch the soul. That inner aspect of self that is divine. Knowing the path that we will walk on our journey through this world. It is also about not getting "sucked" into things that are false...that do not represent the way we are to be or the direction we are to travel. All of those alluring things are like magician's props and they scurry around us trying to distract us from the bigger picture, they rob us of time that we should be devoting to meditation and other pursuits that bring us to a higher level of being.

I see card ones of dreams of a more human nature while this card is dreams of a spiritual nature and is more about achieving our purpose.
